How qualification works in Washington
Washington has a statewide standard. Under RCW 36.28A.090, the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) sets the firearms qualification standard used for LEOSA certification (CJTC Form 734). The course of fire is 25 rounds across six strings of fire at 3, 5, 5, 7, 10, and 15 yards (including strong-hand-only and support-hand-only strings), scored on a BLEA Tactical or similar silhouette target with a minimum passing score of 175 of 250 possible points (70%) — misses off the silhouette cost 10 points each, and exactly two hits are required in the head zone. The qualification must be administered by a WSCJTC-recognized certifying instructor and the resulting certificate is valid for one year from the qualification date.
