How qualification works in Texas
Texas has a statewide standard. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requires retired officers to complete the Retired Officer Firearms Proficiency qualification under Commission Rule §218.9(c)(1): a minimum of 50 rounds fired on a B-27 (or similar silhouette) target using combat scoring, from distances between point-blank and at least 15 yards, with at least 20 of those rounds fired at or beyond 7 yards, including at least one timed reload. A passing score is 70% (175 of a possible 250 points). The qualification must be certified by a TCOLE-certified firearms instructor or LTC instructor and is valid for 12 months from the month of qualification.
