How qualification works in South Dakota
South Dakota has a statewide standard under Administrative Rule 2:01:06:17.01: an approved course of fire must be successfully completed by a certified officer once a year — a 50-round course of fire at ranges from 3 to 25 yards on a B-21 shape scoring target, with a minimum passing score of 38 of 50 hits (76%), confirmed directly from South Dakota Law Enforcement Training's own published course-of-fire document. South Dakota Law Enforcement Training (LET) also runs a dedicated retiree-specific HR 218 qualification guideline: a 2-hour classroom session plus a course of fire on a B-21E target with a 75% minimum passing score, administered at the retiree's own cost ($50 fee, 300 rounds), explicitly described as qualifying the retiree "to state standards."
