How qualification works in Montana
Montana has a dedicated statutory mechanism for LEOSA under Mont. Code Ann. § 45-8-338, which establishes a process for issuing firearms certificates to qualified retired law enforcement officers or peace officers. A retiree satisfies the requirement with a valid firearms qualification certificate, on a current target, acknowledged by either a Montana law enforcement agency or an individual/entity licensed to provide firearms training, confirming the retiree met the standard within the preceding year; the certificate is valid for 1 year from the date of verification. The retiree bears the cost.
