How qualification works in Massachusetts

Massachusetts has a statewide standard. Under 515 CMR 6.00 ("Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act Qualification Standards and Instructor Certification"), a retired officer must qualify annually using a firearm of the same type (semi-automatic or revolver) they intend to carry, firing 50 rounds for each weapon qualified with, against the statewide standards set by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC). The resulting LEOSA Qualification card is valid for 12 months from the date the course was completed.
