How qualification works in Louisiana
Louisiana has a statewide standard. R.S. 40:1379.1.4 defines a "qualified retired law enforcement officer" eligible to carry as one who "qualifies annually in the use of firearms by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council" (POST), consistent with R.S. 40:1379.3(D)(1)(f). The POST firearms qualification course itself (La. Admin. Code tit. 22, Pt III, § 4750) requires requalifying within a 13-month window with a minimum passing score of 80% proficiency; missing that window requires completing the longer pre-academy firearms course instead.
