How qualification works in Florida

Florida has a statewide minimum firearms proficiency standard set by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC), in effect since July 1, 2006. Retired and separated officers must complete the same minimum qualification course required of active Florida officers — currently a 38-round daylight qualification course (effective July 1, 2024) — administered only by a CJSTC-certified firearms instructor, who issues a CJSTC-600 verification card. Unlike active officers (who requalify every two years), retirees and separated officers must requalify every 12 months to keep their LEOSA privilege, and must qualify separately on each "type" of firearm (e.g. semi-automatic vs. revolver) they intend to carry concealed.
