How qualification works in Connecticut
Connecticut does not have one unified standard covering all its retirees — only its own retired troopers (plus out-of-state retirees now living in Connecticut) have access to a real state-run program, the same pattern as New York's NYSP-only program. The Connecticut State Police Firearms Training Unit runs a 60-round qualification course across the 3, 7, 10, 12, and 20-yard lines, requiring 48 of 60 points to pass, plus four hours of classroom training; the resulting photo ID is valid for one year. That program is explicitly limited by its own terms to "retired CSP and retired out-of-state police officers now residing in Connecticut" — a retiree from a Connecticut municipal or local police department is not covered by it.
