How qualification works in Arizona
Arizona has a statewide standard. Under Ariz. Admin. Code R13-4-111(C), administered by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) on behalf of the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST), a qualified retired officer must complete the standard AZPOST peace officer firearms qualification course (50 rounds, day or night) plus a separate pass/fail judgmental shooting (target identification and discrimination) course. The qualification must be administered by an AZPOST-certified, DPS-recognized LEOSA instructor, and the resulting Arizona DPS certificate is valid for twelve months from the qualification event. Per federal LEOSA, this Arizona certification is only usable by Arizona residents.
